Whether he’s reeling in a 1,000 pound Bluefin tuna near Prince Edward Island (PEI) or catching and releasing 24 sharks in 24 hours for a Delaware research team, C.J. Floyd of Catchin’ Jiants pushes his own limits and that of the tackle and gear past the point many distributors have tested. The big game fish Bluefin tuna, one of the strongest, fastest fighters an angler can hook, are known to battle fishermen for hours. Migrating to these waters to feed on schools of smaller fish between July and September each year, at season’s end they are swollen from feasting and are at their largest. A more than 1600 pound Bluefin was caught and released in the waters near PEI just last season by an angler aboard Captain Spencer Norton’s Tightline Tours.

This season, Floyd in partnership with Norton, plans to find that Bluefin again or one larger. In spite of their youth, Captain Spencer Norton (23 years old) of Tightline Tours and C.J. Floyd of Catchin’ Jiants (34 years old) are an experienced and proven pair when it comes to the giant Bluefin. Last season when Floyd reeled in his large catch, Norton captained the boat that caught and released the world record Bluefin.

Floyd’s most valuable tools are his drive and ability to apply pressure and drag through the reel. Floyd, best known in fishing circles as ‘Catchin Jiants’ specializes in stand-up extreme sport fishing off the east coast of the United States and in the waters off of the Canadian and Mexican coasts.
